About this SPEAKER
Anissa Nurdiawati is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Urban Lab, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where she manages the sustainability research group. She earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Technology from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, in 2018. Her research focuses on energy system transformation, industrial decarbonization, and sustainability assessment.
Before joining KAUST, she worked at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, where she focused on developing and implementing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates engineering, socioeconomics, and policy to advance low-carbon energy systems. Her expertise spans Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), GHG inventory calculations, policy analysis, cost-benefit analysis, material flow analysis, and process and supply chain optimization using simulation and mathematical modeling. She has contributed to various projects on green steel, low-carbon cement, and sustainable building materials, with a geographic focus extending from Europe to the Middle East.
Anissa has actively contributed to Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) development, helping industries quantify and communicate environmental impacts. At Urban Lab, led by Prof. Sami G. Al-Ghamdi, the team plays a key role in promoting a national LCA database, ensuring the availability of robust and regionally relevant datasets for policymakers, industries, and researchers.
